The neural network behind Desu Studio's on-device background removal, from the paper “U²-Net: Going deeper with nested U-structure for salient object detection” (Pattern Recognition, 2020). Desu Studio ships a modified build of a human-segmentation variant of this model, converted to ONNX format and quantized for in-browser inference.
